Manatees in the St. Johns

So I was riding my bike in San Marco (Jacksonville) and went by a little creek off the St. Johns River. I saw tons of splashing and commotion in the water. There were about a dozen manatees in the water. This was by far the most active I've ever seen the endangered mammals. I called my parents and asked them to bring my camera. Too bad it was overcast and the water was murky, it made the shots hard to get because the animals blend in well with the tint of the water. I used my D50 with my Tamron 28-105mm f./ 2.8. The ISO was between 400 and 800 because it was a gloomy day. Aperture probably around f./4 and I used the fastest shutter speed I could.

A Few Tidbits About Me

For my first post on this blog, I'd like to quickly introduce myself. My name is Vic Micolucci. I'm a Telecommunication News student at the University of Florida. I love many aspects of the media. I love still photography, I'm getting into videography, I enjoy writing and, frankly, I just like being in the know about what's going on in the world around me. I hope to someday be a reporter, but I haven't ruled out other options just yet. Above's a picture of me having fun aboard an Italian submarine over the summer while working at WJXT.

I'd describe myself as pretty laid back, yet very driven. I love being with family and friends and I love God. I always love hearing a good story and love meeting people. When I'm not at school, you might find me writing and reading the news at WUFT-FM, Classic 89. I'm also getting into sports reporting and I'm often shooting for WUFT-TV, News 5. In my free time, you might find me with my still camera taking pictures, cooking, playing sports, fishing, biking or doing anything else that involves the outdoors.

I hope this gives you a glimpse of who I am. I want this blog to be more than just a class project, I want it to be a new way of communication for me and others. The specific goal of this blog is to teach people simple techniques so they can take great pictures...every day. If you'd like to know more about photography away from this site, go to the site KenRockwell.com. Simply put, this guy knows his stuff. If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear from you.
